THE INTRODUCTION
Hello, dear sewing lovers!
My name is Galia Zlachevskaya. Our site is dedicated to sewing, design and patternmaking. The patterns are made by my method “Genetics of the Cut“, which I also teach in my Centre of Pattern Making and Clothes Design “Galia“. It has been working in Kazan since 1994 and is very popular. Many branches of this centre are open in different cities in Russia as well.
It may seem that it is not necessary to order garments at the dressmaker’s or sew it yourself because the choice in shops is huge and you can buy everything whatever you want. But how often people cannot find a simple skirt or pants to fit. The matter is that usually the standard clothes do not correspond with an individual figure. In many cases ready-made clothing hide the best and accentuate the worst. But the garment is not just protection from cold, heat or damp; it is pretty much an aesthetical object. From this point of view the matter of a good fit is very important.
For many years I have been studying various methods of patternmaking worked out in different countries. Some of them are more than hundred-years old and are very popular. But upon a closer view they appeared to base on figure standardization. All of them try to classify all the diversity of woman figures distributing them among several types. This approach inevitably ignores the individual characteristics of a particular woman’s figure. As dressmakers and tailors do not have an accurate method of patternmaking, they have to do a few fittings trying to get an acceptable fit. I analysed all the faults and gaps of these methods and developed a method, which takes in account individual characteristics of any figure.
The garments cut and sewed by the method “Genetics of the cut“ have a perfect fit.
The cut is so precise that you do not need to waste the time on long fitting processes. In Russia, not only the amateur dressmakers but the experienced professionals as well could appreciate this method and now use it with pleasure in their work. If somebody wants to learn to cut and sew for themselves and their families, it is better to start with a method that helps to gain a good result. With “Genetics of the cut“, even the beginners will not re-cut and re-do their things. The fitting process is incomprehensible and intricate to them especially if they try to fit the garment to themselves. “Genetics of the cut“ method will ease them of this problem.
It does not need much time to learn this method and soon you will enjoy sewing. You and your close people will always be dressed in the nice and comfortable clothes made by your own hands.
The professionals may appreciate how much easier their work will be with “Genetics of the cut“. Very complicated cutting problems will be solved accurately and quickly as never before. You may forget about “difficult“ and “inconvenient“ whatever woman’s, man’s or child’s figure it may be.
Many people study the method “Genetics of the cut“ in courses held in different cities in Russia (Kazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk and etc.), and even more people learn it by themselves using my book “Genetics of the Cut. Sewing for the Non-standard Figure without Fittings“, which is very popular in Russia. Besides, there are on-line courses as well for the people who cannot take full-time classes but would like to learn the method with an instructor. It is especially popular among those who live abroad. My students live in Ukraine, Belarus, Finland, Germany, America and Australia. With the laps of time some of these people become the instructors themselves. They help me to popularise this method in Russia and other countries. “Genetics of the cut“ is effective everywhere despite the difference of the body-build of the people living in different parts of the world. That is because it always works with a particular figure and not with some abstract size.
I am a qualified clothes designer-technologist. My chosen profession is one of those that, whatever the economic circumstances, will always be in demand. I am self-employed, independent from outside employment demands and working from my own home.
In my opinion, the work must be creative and challenging and sewing really is. This is a job where you can show your fantasy, demonstrate your abilities, improve your skills and find something new all the time.
At the institute, I learnt a variety of Russian and foreign methods of patternmaking, attended workshops and masterclasses often given by the authors of those methods and analysed their weak and strong points. My purpose was to understand how to obtain a precise cut for any individual figure. My mother, a professor in Mathematics at Izhevsk Mechanical Institute, was very helpful in devising my method, which I have adopted since, for obtaining the perfect cut for all.
I stated my method in my first book “Genetics of the Cut. Sewing for the Non-standard Figure without Fittings», where I described it in a simple and understandable language. It was published in 2006, became a best seller right away and has been reprinted many times.
